Natural Refrigerants

Natural (or “Not in Kind”) refrigerants are chemicals which occur in nature's bio-chemical processes. They do not deplete the ozone layer and make negligible (or zero in the case of R-717 ammonia) contribution to global warming. Their high efficiency means they make a much lower, indirect contribution to global warming than many synthetic refrigerants.

These products were used before the 1950s prior to fluorocarbon production and are now being used more extensively due to their low impact on the environment.

The Linde Group has a wealth of experience and expertise in environmentally friendly refrigerants. The Linde Group is able to offer a wide range of natural refrigerants to the refrigeration and air conditioning industry including R717 (Ammonia), R744 (CO2) and a wide range of hydrocarbon based products including R600a (Isobutane) and R290 (Propane).
