| Gases have been used in welding for over 100 years. It was in the 1890s when acetylene became available that welding developed into the process that we know today. Combined with oxygen, in different mixing ratios, acetylene can produce a flame temperature up to 3160°C. This flame is ideal for welding and cutting.
An oxy-acetylene welding unit is portable, less expensive and more versatile than an electric one. In combination with the proper tips and rods, almost any metal can be welded. |
