Fred Butler® uses patented technologies which amount to the biggest innovation in dry cleaning in more than 50 years. At the heart of Fred Butlers’® clean technology is a process based on capturing and cleaning with CO2 under high pressure using a cold and gentle process. The results are remarkably fresh, clean textiles and garments with no nasty smells or harmful chemical remains.

The Fred Butler® system uses liquid carbon dioxide (CO2) and specialized detergents in a patented process that:

Dry Cleaning - The CO2 process
Fred Butler’s® patented CO2-method washes with nature´s own water and carbon dioxide.

At high pressure, low temperatures and in a nearly weightless state, dirt and stains are gently removed from all sorts of materials – from cotton, synthetics and wool to leather, fur and suede.

Only biologically degradable substances, only light mechanical impact on the garments. And since your clothes won’t smell of chemicals after washing, we don’t need to hide the smell with added agents. We simply take the dirt out and put nothing back in. This results in fresh, clean clothes, with colours, fit, and quality intact.

The Linde Group, a leading global industrial gas and engineering firm launched Fred Butler® as a modern consumer franchise business out of a strong belief in the need for environmentally-friendly solutions for an age-old problem - namely traditional chemical dry cleaning. A new generation offering clean solutions for the consumer, their clothes and our environment. A revolutionary process which has recieved certifications and awards from the EU Commission (EU Life project) and the Nordic Council of Ministers (Nordic Swan certification) in 1996 and the Blauer Engel in 2007.


Fred Butler® is the alternative to traditional cleaneers whose technology is mainly based on hazardous chemical solvents such as Perc (Perchloroethylene) and Hydrocarbon. Chemicals of which both independant and government studies have shown can be toxic to the health and the environment.

The basis is a revolutionary process based on patented, innovative technology using state-of-the-art processes combined with a strong understanding of consumer trends and needs.

Today, the process is being successfully applied across Europe for both consumer and business applications. The result is a visibly fresh and clean product with reduced fading and shrinkage due to a cold, gentle process using Europe´s only Ecologicially*-certified process throughout.
