| The storage of hydrogen, gaseous or liquid, plays a major role in the establishment of a hydrogen economy. StorHy, a project sponsored by the European Commission deals with this subject.
The objective of this project is the development of a hydrogen storage system for mobile applications in vehicles where all types of storage from gaseous to liquid and metal-storage are taken into consideration.
The largest technical challenge on the way to a hydrogen powered car future is to find storage solutions for this very volatile element meeting the demands of a mobile application.
This means that the storage must be safe, economical, ecological and efficient in the sense of an optimal use of the energy values.
Involved in this project are a total number of 36 different partners, among them car manufacturers and suppliers, international gas companies, research establishments as well as EU representatives.
Since 1989 Linde builds liquid hydrogen tanks for mobile applications. This expertise is an important contribution within this project for the development of cryo storage and safety packages. |
